Description from the seller
Stunning! The item offered at auction is a rare, authentic vintage Shell X-100 Motor Oil advertising tin for automotive engine oil, dating from between 1950 and 1960. The tin is entirely lithographed metal for Shell X-100 motor oil with a screw cap and a welded handle. X-100 was the world's most famous motor oil from 1947 to 1970 and was Shell's top of the range for sports cars and sedans. The tin represents an interesting example of European petroliana, characterized by vivid graphics and featuring the classic yellow-and-red Shell scallop logo. The tin presents in generally good aesthetic condition, authentic as-is, not cleaned or restored, with its original patina and with signs of wear, widespread tarnish and wear to the lithographed surface, which attest to its authenticity and use, which do not diminish the object's beauty but rather testify to its age and contribute to a vintage charm. The tin comes from an old decommissioned workshop. Its dimensions are 26x18x10 cm, weighing approximately 0.4 kg. Photos are an integral part of the description. Unique and exclusive item intended purely for collectors of automobilia and petroliana memorabilia or for decoration of garages, workshops, and themed spaces. Object seen and appreciated from photographic documentation and in its current state as shown in the photographs.
