Antique Art Nouveau wooden diptych photo frame from the United Kingdom, dating to circa 1850–1900, with mass wood construction and high-relief organic floral poppy carving, overall dimensions 38.5 cm high by 27.5 cm wide with internal 15 x 22 cm openings, in good used condition with minor age-related marks, original copper hinges and rear panels, and two authentic black-and-white photos included.
Description from the seller
A particularly beautiful and decorative wooden double panel (diptych) photo frame from the Art Nouveau period (circa 1900). This asymmetrically shaped folding frame is made of solid wood and richly decorated with high-quality, artisanally carved relief woodwork in high relief.
The design shows a flowing and continuous floral motif of poppies, characteristic of the organic, undulating linework of Jugendstil. The flowers, buds and leaves are worked out in great detail and elegantly wind around the photo openings. The panels are connected to each other with the original copper hinges, allowing the frame to be freestanding.
The frame still features two authentic, historical black-and-white photos: on the left a portrait of a gentleman in a suit, and on the right a unique photo of a soldier on an early bicycle with a rifle on his back (bottom marked with the text "Camp, Porthcawl, 1899"). The back contains the original wooden back panels with swiveling closures and blue backing paper.
38.5 cm high x 27 cm wide. In nice antique condition.
