Description from the seller
Elegant reproduction of a red-figure Attic skyphos, inspired by classical Greek pottery of the 5th century BC. This refined specimen combines the functionality of the symposium vessel with the aesthetic refinement typical of Attic ceramic art.
The main decoration depicts a winged female figure, a Nike or a feminine Eros, in graceful flight. The refined details of the jewelry, the feathery wings and the bodily features reveal notable painting skill, enhanced by white overlays for necklaces, bracelets and a crown. The scene is framed by ornamental friezes: a Greek meander at the base and a wavy band with black dots along the upper edge, traditional symbols of Attic decoration.
On the opposite side of the vase, a large stylized palm grows among elegant volutes, symbolizing beauty and harmony, central elements in classical Greek aesthetics. The two side handles provide a comfortable grip, making the cup ideal for convivial or decorative use.
Technical features
Technique: Red-figure painting with white overlaid details
Height: 145 mm
Diameter: 160 mm
Form: Skyphos (deep cup with handles)
Stylistic origin: Attica, Greece – 5th century BC

Curiosity
The presence of the winged figure on a wine cup is not incidental: it evokes victory (Nike), the lightness of intoxication, or the grace of Eros. During Greek symposia, wine was drunk slowly while conversing, singing, or playing: the skyphos was one of the vessels most commonly used for this purpose.
Ideal for: collectors, museums, theatrical settings, lovers of Greek art and classical symbolism.
