Description from the seller
Christofle Gallia – Modernist Silver-Plated Vide-Poche – Sculptural Design Bowl – France
An elegant and beautifully sculptural silver-plated vide-poche by the prestigious French silversmith Christofle, bearing the original Christofle France, OC and Coll. Gallia hallmarks.
This striking piece is distinguished by its elongated, aerodynamic silhouette, gently pointed ends and exceptionally fluid, organic lines. Its highly polished, mirror-like surface beautifully reflects the surrounding light, emphasising the purity and elegance of its design.
The bowl has a distinctly modernist character, combining sculptural aesthetics with everyday functionality. Its sophisticated, minimalist appearance recalls the innovative silverware designs of the Italian designer Lino Sabattini (1925–2016).
Christofle & the Gallia Collection
Founded in Paris in 1830 by Charles Christofle, the renowned French silverware house became internationally celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship, technical innovation and collaborations with influential designers.
The Gallia collection represents an important chapter in Christofle's history, particularly appreciated for its artistic and innovative approach to decorative silver-plated objects.
During the 20th century, Christofle embraced increasingly modern and sculptural designs, creating objects that combined traditional French silversmithing with contemporary artistic expression.
Design & Function
This elegant elongated bowl can be used as a vide-poche, a decorative tray for keys, jewellery or fruit, bread or other small personal belongings.
It also makes a striking centerpiece on a dining table, console or coffee table, either displayed as a standalone sculptural object or used to present small decorative items.
Its timeless design fits beautifully into Mid-Century Modern, contemporary, minimalist and sophisticated vintage interiors.
