Description from the seller
Portuguese Tremó, Louis XV style, in mahogany with gilded carvings - 19th century.
Tremó composed of a console and mirror, Portuguese production from the 19th century, executed in mahogany wood with carved and gilded decoration.
The mirror, with a contoured outline, is framed by a sinuous moldings frame, enriched with volutes, foliage and rocaille motifs. The crown presents a hollowed composition of vegetal motifs and scrolls, while the lower part is centered by a shell-shaped motif.
The console features a wooden top with a cut front and carved side panels and a molded edge. The apron, richly worked and hollowed, incorporates foliage, volutes and a central vegetal composition. It rests on four curved legs, ornamented with gilded accents and joined at the bottom by crossed crossbars, with a central decorative element.
The contrast between the warm hue of the mahogany and the gilded carvings gives unity to the ensemble. The curved lines, the shell motifs and the Rococo revival ornament place it within the nineteenth-century revivalism of the Louis XV style.
