Description from the seller

This splendid fossil resin from Madagascar is an exceptional example of copal, a semi-fossil resin a little younger than fully fossilized amber. With honey-yellow brilliant color and perfectly polished, its transparency allows a detailed view of numerous inclusions of ancient insects, perfectly preserved.

Main features:
Origin: Madagascar
Material: Natural copal (semi-fossil resin)
Estimated geological age: About 1-2 million years (Pleistocene)
Visible inclusions: numerous insects, including mosquitoes, midges, small dipterans, and other winged arthropods
Thanks to the transparency and quality of the specimen, it is possible to recognize with a good approximation some insects trapped in the resin:
Diptera (flies): clearly visible in several areas of the specimen. Some specimens show long hind legs and a slender body, typical of chironomids or fungus gnats.
Mosquitoes (Culicidae family): one specimen appears to have a long proboscis and slender legs, characteristic of mosquitoes. This detail makes it a specimen of strong paleobiological interest.
Small winged insects: including insects similar to aphids or psocids, visible with a globose body and thin membranous wings.
Plant particles: organic fragments suspended, probably pollen residues or vegetal debris trapped in the resin.
Copal is often regarded as the “young amber” and is appreciated by both collectors and paleontologists for its ability to preserve ultra-fine details of the organisms trapped within. The insect inclusions, in particular, offer a direct glimpse into tropical ecosystems of the past.
This specimen, thanks to the variety and visibility of the inclusions, represents a high-level entomological collectible piece, ideal also for educational museums, natural history enthusiasts, and creators of unique jewelry inspired by paleontology.

Seller's Story

The Mineral Art Gallery offers minerals, fossils, shells and natural elements. Born in Italy in 2017, today she collaborates with international galleries and collectors, she is a direct importer of large minerals and naturalistic collectible elements; deals with the processing to insert them inside the living space. A section of the gallery was dedicated to the Wunderkammer, "chamber of wonders or cabinet of curiosities" in which Mirabilia elements are presented: naturalia and italiania, a union between "the present is the past". All lots are shipped via DHL Express and Fercam couriers, with insured parcel and tracking.
