AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Important and elegant lidded pot (ginger jar) with a flattened baluster shape in cloisonné enamel, resting on its original carved exotic wood base. The body is adorned with large white-ground polylobed medallions presenting the traditional Chinese theme of the “Hundred Antiquities.” There is an archaic-style tripoded censer equipped with calligraphy scrolls, brushes and Ruyi scepters, flanked on one side by a bowl of auspicious fruits and on the other by a traditional bonsai (Penzai) cared for in its terracotta pot.

The rest of the piece and its dome lid are richly decorated with cloud scrolls, stylized lotus flowers and gilded and polychrome vegetal scrolls, contrasting superbly with the bright azure blue background. The lid fret takes the form of a gilded bronze lotus bud. The interior of the neck and base reveal characteristic turquoise blue counter-enameling.

Condition:

Very good condition. The enamel retains all its original brightness and freshness. No restoration, no enamel loss, nor major deformation to report. Slight patina and minor wear on the gilding and the wooden base, quite normal for its age. (Please refer to the detailed photos).

Object features:

• Type: Lidded pot / decorative ginger jar
• Technique: Cloisonné enamel on copper (bronze)
• Iconography: Scholar’s objects, incense burner, bonsai and lotus flowers
• Period: Mid-20th century (c. 1950-1970)
