Description from the seller
Coupelle / Rectangular valet tray with rounded corners in Bronze with a double brown and gold patina signed “Max Le Verrier” (1891-1973), a famous French sculptor and editor of art bronzes, globally valued, particularly known for his Art Deco creations.
Its appeal lies notably in its historiated decoration depicting a medieval hunt, its highly detailed relief.
Decoration analysis
The scene depicts a medieval hunting scene, set among dense vegetation.
Several figures in medieval attire are visible, along with richly harnessed horses, hounds set in pursuit of game, and to the right, a bounding deer.
The decoration is organized into a very dense composition, almost entirely occupied by figures, animals and trees. The beaded border frames the whole like a small embossed painting.
Dimensions: 15 × 8 cm.
Weight: 294 g
Circa: 1920/1930
The valet tray is in very good overall condition (normal wear traces due to a century of existence)
Careful protective shipping!

Max Le Verrier (1891-1973) is a French sculptor and designer, an important figure in the decorative arts of the Art Deco period. Trained notably at the École des Beaux-Arts de Genève, he founded his own workshop in Paris in the 1920s and developed a significant production of decorative objects: sculptures, statuettes, lamps, valet trays, ashtrays, book-ends and desk items.
His work is characterized by stylized forms, marked reliefs and especially meticulous patination work, often green, brown or gold. He works with bronze but also with various art alloys, which allow him to publish his creations in multiple copies.
