Description from the seller
EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION: BRAND NEW, NEVER USED
Rare provenance: this chair comes directly from an exhibition room (Showroom) where it was only used as a display model. It has never been used daily.
Its condition is absolutely impeccable and remarkable: no marks, no wear, no shortcomings. This is the opportunity to acquire an iconic piece in strictly “like new” condition.
The chair is upholstered in a sumptuous high-end wool fabric from Kvadrat. Its beige color, enhanced by delicate pinkish highlights, beautifully catches the light and blends softly into all contemporary interiors.
The Mushroom chair (F560) was designed by Pierre Paulin in 1960. A true 20th-century design masterpiece, it is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
Born from the first historic collaboration between Pierre Paulin and the renowned Dutch publishing house Artifort (based in Maastricht), the Mushroom marked history as the very first seat to fully conceal its structural elements under a sculptural form. Its tubular metal frame, arranged in interconnected circular shapes, is fully padded with foam and covered with an elastic fabric.
Pierre Paulin fused influences from Scandinavian furniture with major American productions by Charles Eames or Florence Knoll. A key figure of the French design scene, he contributed to the arrangement of the Denon wing of the Louvre, then designed the private apartments of President Georges Pompidou at the Élysée Palace as well as the offices of President François Mitterrand.
