Description from the seller
Collar with a Byzantine coin of Christ Pantocrator — 11th Century — Era of Romanos III Argyros
Elegant necklace that incorporates an ancient bronze coin of the Byzantine Empire, attributed to the reign of Romanos III Argyros (1028–1034 CE), belonging to the famous series of anonymous follis with representations of Jesus Christ.
The obverse shows the frontal image of Christ Pantocrator, with a cruciform nimbus, traditional vestments and the book of the Gospels, one of the most emblematic religious representations of medieval Byzantine numismatics.
The reverse presents a Christian epigraphic composition, characteristic of these emissions, which proclaims Jesus Christ as King of Kings, expression of the close link between imperial authority and Christian faith in Constantinople.
The coin stands out for its attractive ancient patina, with coppery, green and dark tones that enhance its reliefs and confer it extraordinary personality.
Mounted by a metal ring on a black cord, it constitutes a singular historic jewel that combines the spirituality and art of the Byzantine Empire with contemporary design.
