Description from the seller
Collar with a Byzantine coin of Christ Pantocrator — 10th–11th centuries
Elegant necklace that incorporates a historic bronze coin from the Byzantine Empire, dated between the late 10th and early 11th centuries, belonging to the famous series of anonymous follis with representations of Jesus Christ.
The obverse features the frontal figure of Christ Pantocrator, with a cruciform nimbus and traditional vestments, one of the most emblematic images of medieval religious art.
On the reverse appears the characteristic Greek inscription distributed across four lines, whose translation is “Jesus Christ, King of Kings.”
These emissions stand out for a historical peculiarity: they replaced the portrait of the emperor with the image of Christ, symbolically expressing the supremacy of divine authority over earthly power.
The coin shows an attractive patina of green, coppery, and dark tones, with reliefs that retain the charm of medieval minting.
Mounted with a gold-toned metal ring onto an elegant black cord, it constitutes a singular historical jewel that unites the artistic and religious tradition of Constantinople with a contemporary design.
