DESCRIPTION
Rare and prestigious antique wall mirror dating from the period between the late 19th century and the early 20th century (1890-1910), entirely hand-carved from solid wood by a master artisan of the renowned Salento woodcarving tradition. Preserved in extraordinary original condition and coming from a private collection, this piece displays an exceptionally high level of artistic craftsmanship. The frame features deep chisel carvings that give great relief, plasticity, and visual dynamism to the entire piece.
The structural frame and the majestic upper pediment present rich ornamental motifs in Neo-Baroque and Umbertine taste, dominated by a centrally carved shell, elegant flowing scrolls, and awooded acanthus leaves deftly perforated. The vintage crystal mirror preserves the precious original bevel with a well-defined perimeter grinding, perfectly set and entirely without cracks. On the back is a valuable distinctive element of great collecting interest: an autograph inscription with the artist’s signature and workshop references, incised directly into the wood fiber with a metal-tipped tool. Completing the piece is the original anchoring system consisting of the handmade forged iron hook and its period natural fiber cord.
