Description from the seller
Rare Bordeaux Velvet and Silk Entirely Hand-Embroidered Honor Notebook, Gold-Woven, Dated 1868
Description: Refined pocket-sized document case from the Risorgimento era, precisely dated June 21, 1868.
The object is internally pristine (never written in or used on its pages).
Dimensions: 14 x 9 cm (pocket size).
Exterior: Rigid box-shaped structure fully covered in high-quality Bordeaux velvet (the actual color is dark Bordeaux, though in photos it may appear nearly black due to lighting). The item is distinguished by a rich and elaborate decoration that covers all outer sides (front plate, back plate, and rigid spine). The embroidery is entirely handcrafted with gold threads (goldwork technique), floral silk appliques in pink and Bordeaux tones, small turquoise beads, and a central pearl on the main plate.
Interior: Lined with pure ivory/cream silk, featuring flexible accordion compartments for letters or documents, vintage zippers, and four fabric loops to hold a small notepad or closing pencil.
Dedication: Inside, the gold thread embroidery bears the inscription "Ricordo" on the front plate and the formal dedication "21 June 1868 to B. C.re Luigi" on the back plate.
Provenance: Area of Cuneo (Piedmont, Italy).
Condition: Original item with natural signs of age. Wear and abrasion from rubbing on the Bordeaux velvet along the rigid spine and exterior edges are noted, due to age and period use. Inner silk well preserved and free of ink stains. An exceptional piece for collectors of 19th-century cartotecnica (paper engineering) and textile antiquities.
