Description from the seller
Rare Fluorescent Spinel Crystal Cluster on Albite Matrix – Badakhshan, Afghanistan – 176 Grams
A beautiful and unusual natural spinel specimen from the renowned Badakhshan mines of Afghanistan, weighing 176 grams and measuring 82 × 54 × 31 mm. This attractive specimen features numerous natural spinel crystals growing together on a white albite matrix, creating a distinctive cluster with an appealing combination of purple, pale pink, and whitish tones.
The spinel crystals display naturally formed faces and terminations, with several crystals grouped closely together to create an attractive three-dimensional arrangement. Crystals can be observed on multiple sides of the matrix, including the front, back, top, and bottom, giving the specimen visual interest from different viewing angles. The upper portion is particularly appealing, with several crystals forming a compact natural cluster.
One of the most remarkable features of this specimen is its fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) light. The crystals show a visible colour change under UV illumination, with the natural purple appearance contrasting with the yellow fluorescence described for this specimen. The accompanying photographs illustrate its appearance under normal lighting and UV light.
The specimen is self-standing, making it suitable for display without additional support. Its natural crystal arrangement, contrasting albite matrix, and fluorescent response make it an interesting addition to a mineral collection, particularly for collectors of fluorescent minerals and Afghan mineral specimens.
