Statue, 18-19e eeuws houten Mariabeeld Maria Regina Coeli met kindje Jezus, - 33.5 cm - Wood

Rare authentic antique devotional statue of Mary Queen of Heaven with child Jesus (Maria Regina Coeli).

Details that make this statue 18th-century:

This statue is not flat, but has a partly hollowed / half back, as was common for church and altar statues from the 18th century.

This was done to prevent cracks in the wood.
In addition, the statue displays an exceptionally deep craquelé and patina across the entire surface, with natural flaking of the original paint layers.
The construction with a chalk layer, polychromy, and gold leaf is fully original and unrestored.

Depiction:
Mary with crown and scepter in the right hand, the Christ Child with crown on the left arm, also holding the globe / world ball.
The mantle is richly executed in old red and deep blue-green with golden trim decoration.

Provenance & dating:
Alpine region, tradition South Tyrol / Gröden / Southern Germany.

Considering the hollow back, the hand-carved pedestal, the material choice, and the deep craquelé, to date to late 18th century, possibly early 19th century.
The crowns may have been added in the early 20th century, as is often the case with this type.
