About David Hockney (1937–2026) - (220 for 2020) / Collector Edition stamped and numbered with a preface by David Hockney
Collector Edition (numbers 401 to 2,020), stamped and numbered on an extra sheet slipped into Volume 1, with a preface by David Hockney - (Here number: 1048)
Confined in Normandy, David Hockney observed the passage of the seasons and used his iPad to spontaneously transcribe the impressions that the surrounding landscape stirred in him. This project became a lifeline for him and, for us, a message of hope. For this book, David Hockney compiled 220 paintings from 2020 (with four bonus), laid out on blue paper. The album is accompanied by a booklet containing facsimiles of two sketchbooks prepared for the project.
A Year in Normandy with David Hockney /
The seasons flow through a book of art by an artist composed of paintings on iPad. From his quaint smallholding lost among the rich meadows of Normandy, David Hockney observed the passage of the seasons in 2020, up to the early hours of the new year. He used his iPad to capture with greater spontaneity the changing beauty of the landscape around him, the first spring buds, the scents of summer, the saturated colors of autumn, and the stark silhouettes of bare winter branches. The 220 paintings (and four bonus) in this collection were reproduced with up to seven special colors to best serve the artist’s vision, then laid out on dark blue paper. A short introduction by Hockney recounts how this project, conceived before the pandemic, became a lifeline during the confinement, through which he spread a message of hope: “Remember they cannot cancel spring!”
The collection is accompanied by an additional booklet of ink drawings and watercolors: complete facsimiles of two 2019 sketchbooks, which begin on the outskirts of the artist’s Los Angeles property, and follow him as he travels through Normandy. The two volumes are presented in a luxury case, with a painting of an iPad showing a magical view of his house and garden printed on the back of the cover.

About the artist /
David Hockney (1937–2026) was an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, designer, and photographer. He emerged in the early 1960s at the height of British pop, then moved to Los Angeles in 1964, where he painted his famous pool paintings. In addition to the classical genres of portraiture and landscape, he continually evolved his art, employing unexpected techniques such as Polaroid, photocopying, and fax, digital video, or using the iPhone and iPad as tools to paint. Since his first major retrospective exhibition, which toured Europe in 1970 starting at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, he has been one of the most exhibited and popular artists in contemporary art.
