Description from the seller
Christofle – Malmaison – Elegant Silver-Plated Round Serving Tray – France
An elegant and refined small round silver-plated serving tray by the prestigious French silver house Christofle, crafted in the iconic Malmaison collection, one of the house's most recognisable and distinguished designs.
Design & Decoration
The Malmaison pattern takes its inspiration from the French Empire style, closely associated with the reign of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Joséphine.
Named after the Château de Malmaison, the former residence of Empress Joséphine near Paris, this collection reflects the elegance and decorative refinement of the early 19th century.
The tray features the characteristic Malmaison border, beautifully decorated with a continuous frieze of stylised palm and lotus leaves, complemented by a delicate beaded inner rim.
The combination of its richly decorated border and smooth, highly polished centre creates a sophisticated and timeless appearance.
Christofle – French Silver Excellence
Founded in Paris in 1830 by Charles Christofle, the renowned French silver house became internationally celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship, innovative silver-plating techniques and luxurious tableware.
Christofle supplied prestigious European households, royal courts, luxury hotels and fine dining establishments.
The Malmaison collection, introduced in 1967, pays tribute to the French Empire style and remains one of Christofle's celebrated collections.
Versatile Use
Originally designed as an elegant small serving tray or bottle coaster, this charming piece can be used in several ways:
As a coaster for a wine bottle or small carafe.
For serving chocolates, pralines, petits fours or small pastries.
As an individual bread plate.
