AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Napoléon III mantel clock – Samuel Marti & Cie – Bronze Medal – France, 19th century

Important French mantel clock from the Napoléon III period, made in the second half of the 19th century.

This elegant clock is distinguished by its monumental architecture in black stone, probably marble or slate, adorned with delicate engravings of scrollwork, floral motifs and stylized rosettes.

The circular white enamel dial, with Roman numerals, is edged by a rich gilded bezel finely decorated. The central part reveals the escapement, giving the whole a particularly appealing horological character.

The clock is equipped with a French movement signed Samuel Marti & Cie – Bronze Medal.

Samuel Marti counts among the important French clockmaking manufactories of the 19th century. The house was notably awarded a bronze medal in 1860, a distinction frequently mentioned on its movements, before subsequently receiving other awards at major international exhibitions.

The presence of this signature adds to the clock’s interest for collectors of French clockmaking.

The movement is present and seems mechanically active when operated. However, given its age, a complete overhaul by a clockmaker is recommended before any regular use.

The balance wheel and the winding key are missing.

The clock is therefore offered as is, as an antique piece to be revised and completed.

Despite these elements, it retains a very beautiful decorative presence, a particularly elegant dial and above all its old movement signed Samuel Marti & Cie.

Approximate dimensions :

Height : 40 cm
Width : 40 cm

Very beautiful piece of 19th-century French horology, intended for both a collector and for an admirer of Napoleon III objects or for a high-quality clock restoration project.
