Trilobite Gerastos granulosus – Enrollment — This specimen belongs to the species Gerastos granulosus, a trilobite of the family Phacopidae, that lived during the Middle Devonian (about 393–383 million years ago). Originating from the fossil formations of the Moroccan Anti-Atlas, it appears in an enrollment position, the defensive curling typical of trilobites, which allowed them to protect the most vulnerable parts of the body. Morphological features: rounded and granulated cephalon: the surface of the glabella is covered with dense pustules and reliefs, a distinctive trait of the species (granulosus indeed means “granulated”). schizochroal eyes reduced, composed of small lenses, less prominent than those of other Phacopidae like Drotops. Thorax short and compact, largely hidden by the rolled position. Pygidium compact, which completes the rounded shape of the specimen.
