Description from the seller

Rare UV-Reacting Antique "Vieux Chênée" Vase (Manganese) – Ruby Red & Clear Glass – Liège (Belgium), ca. 1900 – Pristine!

A truly stunning and impressive antique trumpet vase from the renowned Belgian glassworks Verrerie de Chênée (Liège), highly beloved by collectors as the "Vieux Chênée." This masterpiece dates from the heyday of Liège glass art, circa 1900.

Unique UV Property (Manganese Glass):
This specific piece has a fantastic hidden feature: the glass is UV-reactive! Under a UV 365 nm lamp/blacklight, all bright elements (the foot and the rigaree spiral) glow beautifully and intensely yellow-green. This is direct and authentic evidence of the historical presence of manganese in the glass mass around the turn of the century.

The vase is a fine example of the refined, organic Art Nouveau style from that period. The cup/calyx is finished in a deep, intense ruby red (cranberry) color and features a gorgeous optical swirl (canalures) in the glass, tapering to a gracefully wavy rim.

Around the neck, a clear glass spiral wire is manually applied, expertly chipped (rigaree). The colored cup rests via a tight transition knop on a fully clear, stable glass foot. On the underside is the authentic, rough pontil mark (scar from the glassblowing pipe) clearly visible.

Condition:
The vase is in an exceptional, completely pristine condition. No chips, no cracks, and no restorations to the extremely fragile wavy rim or the attached clear glass threads. This is extremely rare for glasswork of this age and elegance.

Dimensions:
• Height: ca. 29 cm
• Diameter at rim: ca. 12 cm
• Foot diameter: ca. 7.5 cm

A beautiful historical collectible that, due to its impressive size, deep ruby sparkle, and magical UV glow, is an absolute eye-catcher. Will, of course, be shipped with the utmost care and double-walled packaging.
