Description from the seller

An decorative head mount is up for auction: a decorative head specimen of a Chinese water deer (Hydropotes inermis), an unusual deer species from East Asia. The water deer differs clearly from most other deer in that it has no antlers. Instead, especially the males bear conspicuous, elongated canines in the upper jaw that protrude sideways from the mouth and give this small deer its distinctive appearance.

The present mount impresses with its natural radiance and the meticulously preserved fur. The warm, reddish-brown tones of the head contrast harmoniously with the lighter underside and the striking, dark eyes. Notably, the clearly visible, curved tusks make the water deer a zoological curiosity.

Chinese water deer originate from China and Korea and predominantly inhabit wetlands, reed zones, and riverside landscapes. Due to their unusual anatomy, they hold a special position among the deer family.

An attractive collectible for enthusiasts of zoological specimens, exotic mammals, and extraordinary representatives of the deer family.
