Description from the seller
Antique liturgical lectern (Bible stand) in carved and gilded wood - Baroque style recently restored.
This is a sacred table lectern (originally used as a missal holder or Bible holder), entirely made of solid wood hand-carved and enhanced with gilded finishes that highlight its forms.
The item stands out for its rich ecclesiastical workmanship:
• Upper back: Characterized by a shaped profile with volutes and topped by a shell pediment. At the center stands a splendid pierced motif with a strictly geometric and floral taste.
• Lower base: The base echoes Baroque decorative motifs with a central shell carving (rocaille style) and rests on two elegant, curved, shaped feet.
• Functionality: The horizontal resting plane, with a gold edge, is equipped with an original hinged joint that allows the structure to be folded for easy transport or storage.
The wooden hinged joint, a mortise-and-tenon self-contained joint (often also called a "comb joint" or "monobloc hinge"), is carved entirely from solid wood without any joints or metal components, as can be seen in the photos.
This is a typical craft technique of traditional artistic craftsmanship (often Alpine, monastic, or popular cabinetmaking), highly valued for demonstrating great manual technical skill.
It is in excellent condition with the classic patina of time that authenticates its age.
A piece of great charm and visual impact, perfect for collectors of sacred art, liturgical objects, or as an exclusive decorative element to enhance antique books and precious volumes.
Measurements closed: height 49 cm / width 25 cm; open height 40 cm
