Description from the seller

Osculatoire reliquaire de la Vraie Croix – Argent et laiton – XIXe siècle

Rare osculatory reliquary in circular form, in silver and brass, housing a sealed thèque containing a relic of the True Cross (Ex Ligno Crucis D. N. J. C.).
The silver frame features a raised decoration of a crown of thorns, symbol of the Passion of Christ.
At the center, on a golden fabric background, a circular thèque is surrounded by a gilded crown of thorns.
It contains a fragment of the Cross (Ex Ligno Crucis D. N. J. C.), arranged on a white cross edged in red, accompanied by its handwritten tituli.

The thèque retains on the reverse side its red threads and its ecclesiastical wax seal in red wax, showing old cracks.
The whole is fitted with a brass annular handle on the back, allowing its use as an osculatory reliquary, intended for the veneration of the relic.

Diameter: 8 cm.

Fine overall condition, with signs of use and age. Old red wax seal, cracked, sealing threads visible.

The photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complete its presentation. They allow one to appreciate its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The object will be carefully wrapped and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.

Happy bidding

In accordance with Canon Law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
