Description from the seller
Exceptional large Japy Frères & Cie pendulum clock – Neo-Renaissance Napoléon III – 19th century – 7.1 kg
Description
Imposing and very decorative French clock in Neo-Renaissance / Napoléon III style, dating presumably from the second half of the 19th century.
The clock features an especially rich architecture: summit urn, numerous scrolls, volutes, vegetal motifs, architectural elements and worked feet. The dial consists of white enamel cartouches with Roman numerals, surrounded by an extremely elaborate metallic decoration.
It is equipped with an authentic mechanical movement by Japy Frères & Cie, bearing the seal “Grande Médaille d’Honneur” as well as the number 2827. The mechanism has a gong strike, which is still present.
The winding key is also present.
The case appears to be made of régule / metal alloy with a silvered finish, with a beautiful patina and traces of wear consistent with its age. Several marks or old stamps are visible on certain parts of the structure.
Dimensions approximative:
Height: 43 cm
Maximum width: 30 cm
Weight: 7.1 kg
Condition: antique object showing signs of use, wear, oxidation and alterations of the silvered finish visible in the photographs. These marks contribute to its antique character.
The balance wheel is missing.
The clock has its key, its gong and its movement, but the functioning could not be tested due to the absence of the balance wheel. It is therefore sold without guarantee of functioning and may require servicing or restoration by a horologist.
Very beautiful decorative piece with great presence, particularly interesting due to its substantial movement signed Japy Frères & Cie, its considerable weight and the exceptional richness of its decoration.
