Description from the seller
The lot of 130 miniassegni for sale is an interesting testimony of a particular phase of Italian monetary history.
It consists of documents that, beyond their collectible value, possess notable historical, economic and graphic interest.
The lot presents a good variety of issuing banks, denominations, colors and types of miniassegni.
Its strength lies above all in its ability to document a phenomenon typically Italian of the Seventies, when these titles temporarily replaced the small-denomination coins that were scarce in everyday circulation.
The miniassegni spread in Italy mainly between 1975 and 1978, during a period of great difficulty in obtaining small-value metal coins. Banks issued low-value checks, accepted by merchants and used effectively as a means of payment.
They were not legal tender coins in the traditional sense, but bank securities that ended up performing a function similar to small change.
The lot presents a mix of miniassegni FDS and circulated, as shown in the photographs.
There may be the presence of pronounced folds and tears;
corners and edges may not be intact.
There may be occasional small stains, abrasions or inscriptions;
see the front and back photographs, an integral part of the listing.
