Description from the seller

Reliquary of the True Cross – Gilded brass – Neo-Gothic style – 19th century

Elegant altar reliquary in gilded brass, neo-Gothic style, resting on a molded circular base and topped with a flowering cross.

The upper part, richly worked, features an openwork decoration of foliage, fleur-de-lis and vegetal motifs. The central medallion is adorned with fine engravings depicting grape leaves and clusters of grapes.

In the center, a circular glass reliquary contains a fragment from the True Cross, arranged on a radiating background evoking the Holy Spirit dove. It is accompanied by its manuscript titulus bearing the Latin inscription “De Ligno S.Smae Crucis,” designating the wood of the Most Holy Cross.

The reliquary thèque is sealed inside the reliquary.

Good overall condition, with signs of use, gilding wear and an old patina.

The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.

Happy bidding

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The reliques it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
