Description from the seller
Remarkable object from the same style family as the large hanging lamp from 1891: an elegant bronze crown/holder, originally probably the base of an oil lamp, ceiling disc, or decorative centerpiece, mounted on three graceful legs. On three sides there are identical, beautifully detailed cast bronze ships with seated female figures at the helm, complete with sails and flag – the same motif as in the large lamp from the earlier set. The year 1891 is engraved on the hull of the ships.
Characteristics:
- Material: bronze
- Height: 36 cm
- Diameter: 50 cm
- Year of construction: 1891 (engraved on the ship hulls)
- Three decorative legs, of which three feature a ship motif and a seated female figure
- Central ring with open-work Greek key motif (meander pattern)
- Vertical column through the center with a third, smaller figure
- Two hanging eyes at the top edge for mounting or suspending
Style: Historicism, late 19th century, comparable to Napoleon III/Victorian ornamentation – almost certainly part of the same series or the same workshop as the large lamp from 1892.
Condition: antique signs of use, natural patina consistent with the age of 130+ years. Construction solid and complete and small pieces have a crack.
The photos are part of the description (what you see is what you get).
This object will be professionally packed in protective film with environmentally friendly filling material. Standard double-wall cardboard boxes are used for protection of your purchase. The buyer will receive a T&T code. All shipments are sent insured and registered! (Shipping at own risk)
