Map titled 'La Haie Sejour ordinaire de la Cour Hollandoise' by Nicolas de Fer (1646–1720), published in Paris in 1705, depicting The Hague, Netherlands, measuring 26 x 42 cm, un coloured, Atlas Curieux, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Splendid and accurate topographic and historical plan of the city of The Hague, entitled "La Haie Sejour ordinaire de la Cour Hollandoise", conceived by the renowned royal French geographer Nicolas de Fer (1646–1720) and published in Paris in 1705, bearing the date incised directly inside the sumptuous baroque cartouche placed at the bottom left. The work offers a detailed bird’s-eye view representation of the historic seat of the court and the Dutch government, clearly highlighting the complexes of historic buildings (such as the Binnenhof), the protective artificial canals, the meticulously groomed parterres of the noble gardens, and the imposing tree-lined zones surrounding. The left side of the plate hosts a wide textual section containing a dense "Description de la Haye" in French, topped by the city’s heraldic coat of arms, and a rich alphabetical legend ("Renvoy") from A to Q for the immediate identification of the main monuments, palaces, churches (including the French and English churches) and squares of the settlement. This fine copper engraving, distinguished by the plate number 18 printed in the upper right corner, belongs to the author’s fortunate encyclopedic and chorographic collections, the Atlas Curieux and Les Forces de l'Europe. The sheet is presented in generally excellent condition, characterized by crisp ink, excellent definition of urban details and wide clean margins, presenting itself as a decorative piece of unquestioned interest for collectors of historical cartography of the United Provinces.
