Entnazifizierungsschein ('Persilschein') as a Drucksache-Postcard, Michel 944, from the Allied Occupation of Germany, dated 25 April 1947, addressed and postmarked.
Description from the seller
Historical Background:
After the end of World War II, the Allied occupation powers initiated a comprehensive program of denazification for the German population. Based on the Law for the Liberation from National Socialism and Militarism of March 5, 1946, all residents over 18 were required to provide detailed information about their political past.
Locally established Spruchkammern (adjudication chambers) reviewed the questionnaires and classified citizens into various categories. The document presented here — a "Formblatt 11 (Mitteilung an Nichtbetroffene)" — is an authentic record of this historic process.
Such an official certificate (in common parlance often called a "Persilschein" / whitewash certificate) was, in the immediate postwar period, essential for survival, as it formed the prerequisite for resuming professional and business activities as well as participation in public life.
