Description from the seller
Art Deco Travel Manicure Set – Sterling Silver Mounts – H. J. Cooper & Co Ltd – Birmingham, 1925 – England
An elegant and unusual English travel manicure set dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1925.
The set consists of four manicure instruments with beautifully turned turquoise-green handles, accompanied by two matching cylindrical protective cases.
The handles and cases are made from an early decorative synthetic material, possibly Galalith (casein-based plastic) or Bakelite, displaying an attractive jade-green colour.
Both cylindrical cases feature sterling silver mounts, hallmarked in Birmingham, England, in 1925, with the maker's mark H.J.C., attributed to H. J. Cooper & Co Ltd.
The four steel manicure instruments include nail-care and cuticle-care tools, with the blades marked English Steel.
Particularly charming is the compact travel design, allowing the instruments to be stored neatly inside their matching protective cases.
The combination of vibrant green material, polished silver and finely turned handles reflects the fashionable Art Deco taste of the 1920s.
A delightful collector's item, ideal for collectors of antique vanity accessories, English silver and Art Deco dressing-table objects.
Condition: Vintage condition with age-related surface scratches and signs of use. Please carefully examine the photographs, which form an integral part of the description.
