Specimen Aioloceras (Cleoniceras) sp. on Original Matrix, an extraordinary agglomerate of ammonites from Mahajanga, Madagascar, dating to the Early Cretaceous, preserved in natural condition, weighing 21.1 kg with dimensions 520 × 280 × 270 mm.
Description from the seller
A fantastic assemblage of Cleoniceras ammonites still on their original matrix.
We are shown an ancient, extremely dynamic scene, a moment when a group of these cephalopods, due to an unknown event, suddenly found themselves buried, immobilized for centuries, to be returned to us in the form we now see.
The largest of these fossils has shattered into several pieces, as a testament to the drama of the moment, while numerous other ammonites of various sizes remain intact to show us the beauty of the designs of the septa of their shells.
In some specimens one can glimpse traces of red opalescence, a typical phenomenon that forms on the shells of these animals, and in others one can admire the phylloid-type suture lines in a very pronounced white color that create striking patterns and contrasts.
Dimensions: 520 x 280 x 270 mm
Weight: 21.1 kg
Origin: Mahajanga, Madagascar
