The 80th anniversary of Maria Callas - Callas Forever - Japanese B1 Poster — c. 2003 - Hidekichi Shigemoto artwork’s

A striking meeting of Japanese brushwork and European opera, this large-format Japanese cinema poster promotes Franco Zeffirelli’s Callas Forever, starring Fanny Ardant and Jeremy Irons.

The illustration is attributed to Hidekichi Shigemoto (茂本ヒデキチ), whose professional biography credits him with creating the poster for this film. Expressive black and grey brushstrokes form an elegant silhouette, framed by oversized gold-coloured lettering, a red “Forever” title and Japanese calligraphy.

Created for the film’s Japanese release in 2003, the design carries a printed tribute marking the 80th anniversary of Maria Callas’s birth. Its combination of Japanese visual expression and an international cultural icon makes it an appealing selection for Japan × Tempura.
