Description from the seller
CANON EF + FD 50mm F1.8 S.C., tested and working.
Hello from Japan!
We provide high-quality cameras and lenses to the world.
The Canon EF, produced from 1973 to 1978, is the odd one out among Canon's FD-mount bodies: an electronically governed shutter-priority SLR built around a Copal Square vertical-travel metal shutter rather than the cloth shutters of its F-1 and FTb siblings. That shutter gives it an unusually wide range, with electronically timed speeds running all the way to a full 30 seconds — a capability no other manual-focus Canon offered — while the fast speeds from 1/2 to 1/1000 stay mechanically timed and work even with dead batteries. Its silicon photocell meter was among the most responsive of the period, and the heavy, densely built body earned it the nickname 'the black beauty' among collectors. Never a big seller in its day, it is now sought after as the most technically ambitious of Canon's classic manual bodies. It is offered here with the Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 S.C., the classic standard lens of the FD system.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1 s (on the mark)
- 1/60 — measured 1/61 s (on the mark)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/885 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow)
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 0.7 OVER / EV15: 1.0 OVER
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.
Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Light seals (foam) replaced
Known Issues
1. Fine dust on the rear element and slight haze at the edge of the FD 50mm f/1.8 (please check the photos).
