Description from the seller
Gogol Premier – Bono (U2)
Oil painting on a bass drum skin
Diameter: 22 inches (55.9 cm)
Date: 2024
Original unique work, signed by the artist.
Created directly on an authentic bass drum head, this original work by Gogol Premier pays homage to Bono, the iconic singer of U2. The portrait, rendered in black and white with great graphic sobriety, instantly captures the musician’s identity thanks to a powerful contrast and deliberately pared-down pictorial language.
The support itself is an integral part of the work: a 22-inch drum skin (55.9 cm in diameter), universal symbol of the stage and live performance. The circular ridges of the membrane dialogue with the oil painting and reinforce the musical character of the composition.
A major artist on the French punk scene since 1982, Gogol Premier also pursues a personal plastic approach where music, painting and contemporary art meet. Lead singer of 14 albums and author of more than 500,000 records sold, he transposes here his stage universe onto an atypical support, making this creation a work at the boundary between a musical object and contemporary art.
This piece, entirely hand-painted, is a unique edition intended for both contemporary art collectors and rock enthusiasts and memories related to the music scene.
