Vintage Vallauris ceramic glazed amphora-shaped lamp with a pierced form, 30 cm high and wide, featuring doré accents and an internal socket with a cord, in good exterior condition with minor age-related marks and two broken fish tails inside, sold as is or for restoration.
Description from the seller
Magnificent and spectacular amphora-shaped lamp with drilled ceramic, attributed to the famous Vallauris workshops (mid-20th century / 1950s-1970s).
This baroque and highly detailed piece features a true underwater marine landscape:
- Relief sculpted decor: Presence of a large bright red crab, polychrome fish, a seahorse, and finely worked marine/coral formations.
- Exceptional finishes: Spotted and nuanced enamels in turquoise blue, aqua, brown and black tones, enhanced by beautiful touches of gold gilding on the borders and sculpted details.
- Lighting function: A socket is integrated into the cavity. When lit, the light filters through the amphora and illuminates the underwater decor with a magical, fairy-like effect.
Technical specifications
Origin: Vallauris, France
Style / Era: Vintage / Modernist - 1950s-70s
Material: Enamelled ceramic, gilding
Dimensions: Height ~30 cm | Width ~30 cm
Electrical system: Cable present, socket located in the inner cavity.
Condition
Overall exterior condition: The enamels and gilding remain very vivid.
Defect to note: Inside the decor, the tails of two fish are broken/missing (see photo detail). Due to the density of the interior decor and the depth of the cavity, this remains relatively discreet once the lamp is placed or lit, but the piece is sold as-is or for restoration.
Delivery & Packaging
Very careful and secure shipping: reinforced packaging with bubble wrap and double cardboard to protect the remaining sculpted elements.
