AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Tourism-set in full folded sheets . The last legal set that was issued before the civil-war in 1989.

Catalog value 900€ (Michel2026)

• The Soviet Withdrawal (1989): In February 1989, the Soviet Union completed its military withdrawal from Afghanistan after a decade-long occupation.
• The Outbreak of Civil War: The departure of the Soviets left a power vacuum. The remaining communist government collapsed, and rival factions of mujahideen (anti-Soviet guerrilla fighters) began fighting each other for control of the country.
Therefore between 1990 and 2001 no stamps were issued. In 1994 the Taliban issued new stamps to provide money for warfare, but these were never allowed by the UPU, and so declared illegal.

In 2002 the first legal sets were issued under the transiation by the US-army.

1664 - Great Friday Mosque, Herat
1665 - Minaret of Jam
1666 - Buzkashi game
1667 - Airplane over the Hindu Kush
