Description from the seller

This vase was designed by the influential Austrian artist Koloman Moser around 1901. The design was specifically produced by the famous Bohemian glass manufacturer Joh. Loetz Witwe for the Vienna-based distributor and publisher E. Bakalowits & Söhne. This type of decoration is known by the name "Streifen und Flecken" (streaks and spots). Although such vases at auctions are often categorized under the "School of Koloman Moser" (or Wiener Werkstätte / Wiener Secession), the design itself is directly attributed to Moser. A beautifully formed, bulb-shaped vase of deep purplish-blue glass with a vivid iridescent surface. The vase is decorated all around with a geometric pattern of vertically raised opalescent silver-white bands, interrupted by applied round spots (droplets) with an intense, mother-of-pearl pink and blue sheen. The vase features a characteristic, organically undulating, multi-lobed flaring rim (cupped/ruffled rim) and rests on a polished stand ring with radial grooves. The underside shows a cut and polished pontil mark. The glass also displays a beautiful texture with finely distributed artisanal air inclusions (seed). These embedded micro air bubbles are inherent to the early melting process of the period and form an important feature of the authentic, hand-blown glass production of Joh. Loetz Witwe. When the vase is lit from above, this appears as a special sheen. A similar specimen was sold at a German auction house. An identical model and decoration was auctioned in London in June 2010 (Lot 123, "School of Koloman Moser"). For similar objects from this series: Loetz – Böhmisches Glas 1880-1940, Vols. 1 & 2. In very good condition with no fractures. Some scratches on the exterior - 13 cm high - about 14 cm in diameter. We pack carefully and ship insured.
