Antique Charles X period centerpiece in gilded and patinated bronze, featuring two dark patinated putti supporting an openwork gilded bronze basket, France, ca. 1820–1830.
Description from the seller
A remarkable and richly executed centerpiece from the French Charles X period, circa 1820–1830.
The composition consists of two beautifully modeled putti in dark patinated bronze, who together carry an elegant, openwork basket in gilded bronze. The refined modeling of the figures and the decorative rendering of the basket testify to high-quality French bronze work from the first quarter of the 19th century.
Particularly striking is the contrast between the warm, lustrous gilded bronze and the deep dark patina of the putti. This interplay of materials and colors gives the whole a pronounced sculptural and luxurious character.
Such centerpieces were intended as prestigious table ornaments for distinguished interiors and formed an important part of French decorative arts during the Restoration period.
An impressive and decorative object that, almost two centuries after its manufacture, still retains its original elegance and appearance.
