Description from the seller
Beautiful, antique Jugendstil silver cup from around 1900 – solid silver 850 with magnificent inner gilding
For sale is a splendid, original silver cup from the Jugendstil era (approx. 1895–1910). An absolute showpiece for collectors of historic silver objects or as an exclusive, valuable gift (e.g., as a baptismal cup or godparent cup).
Special highlights & details:
• Noble ornament: The front features a stunning, plastically crafted floral relief with a stylized poppy/anemone and sweeping leaves – absolutely typical of the Art Nouveau period.
• Original inner gilding: The interior of the cup fascinates with a well-preserved, warm gold tone (historical fire gilding), which at the time protected the silver from darkening by beverages.
• Hefty quality & high fineness: The cup is pleasantly solidly made and weighs a substantial 117 grams. Under magnification you can see the rare and high fineness stamp 850.
• Authenticity guarantee: On the underside are the legal German silver marks (Reichsadler crowned with the fineness 850) as well as an (age-worn) maker’s mark.
Condition:
The cup is in an honest, age-appropriate top condition. No deep dents, breaks, or cracks. The piece remains in its untouched original state with a fabulous patina that gives the floral relief wonderful visual depth. The cup has intentionally not been chemically cleaned or polished to preserve the historic collector value.
