Description from the seller
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Rare Mercedes-Benz 300 D (W115) from 1975 with the distinctive 3.0-liter 5-cylinder diesel engine and automatic transmission
• Originally from the dry state of Texas (USA) and imported by the seller from Nevada; completely rust-free with a bone-dry underbody
• Equipped with original details such as the Becker radio, tinted glass, power windows, air conditioning, tool kit, and the original booklets
• No C.O.C. (Certificate of Conformity) required for registration within Europe due to the 50-year age
HISTORY & OVERVIEW:
The Mercedes-Benz W115, designed by Paul Bracq and introduced in the late 1960s, is worldwide renowned for its proverbial build quality and bulletproof engineering. The 300 D (with the famous OM617 5-cylinder diesel engine) was introduced in 1974 and is considered a historic milestone: it was the world’s first serial-produced passenger car with a five-cylinder diesel engine. This specific example was sold new 50 years ago in Texas (USA) and later moved to Nevada, from where the current seller purchased the car. In recent years the car has driven little.
EXTERIOR:
The bodywork and chassis are in rust-free condition; the underbody is bone-dry. The paint has been partially repainted in the past, resulting in noticeable color differences (especially on the right door and rear fender). In some spots the paint has been polished, particularly on the roof. For an additional €1,000, the seller can include a European bumper and headlamp set.
INTERIOR:
The interior has been very well preserved and features the original Becker radio. The filling of the seat upholstery has largely deteriorated over time. The equipment further includes power windows, tinted glass and an air conditioning system.
ENGINE & TECHNICAL:
Under the hood is the iconic 3.0-liter five-cylinder diesel engine, paired with an automatic transmission. The car starts, runs and shifts well. On a cold start, the engine responds somewhat slowly, it leaks some oil, and the technology requires regular maintenance due to light use in recent years. In the luggage compartment there is an extra diesel tank.
DOCUMENTS:
The vehicle is delivered with the original manuals/booklets and documentation. Because of the 50-year age, no C.O.C. (Certificate of Conformity) is required for European registration. A tool kit is also present.
The vehicle can be viewed and picked up in Damwoude, Netherlands. Bids are exclusive of transport and export, unless stated otherwise. Arranging the transport, ownership transfer, and any export documents/registration costs are the responsibility of the buyer. The seller can optionally assist with transport throughout Europe.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
