Artist posters are posters designed by visual artists (in the traditional sense) mainly for self-promotion, to announce, for example, their exhibition in a museum or a gallery. The posters are usually printed and distributed in a predominantly small edition (typically about 100 – 200 copies).
Posters signed by the artist themselves are very rare and offer collectors an ultimate investment with great potential for appreciation.
Already well established in their own art sphere, dedicated posters museums emerged in the USA and Europe as early as the 1960s and 1970s, and large museums such as the Museum of Modern Art or the Guggenheim Museum in New York devoted themselves to exhibitions of pure artist posters, whose importance is also reflected in the poster catalogs of many great artists.
