Description from the seller
Lot Description:
In the auction, a single artistic reinterpretation of one of the most iconic 8mm cameras of the postwar era: the Bolex Paillard C8, produced in Switzerland in the 1950s.
Concept and custom design:
this unit represents a fascinating homage to 1950s Switzerland, a golden era when the Swiss nation was the premier destination for international elite tourism, drawn by breathtaking landscapes, elegance, and tranquility.
The graphic project is the result of careful study among several visual alternatives, aimed at perfectly merging the soul of the mechanical object with the iconography of travel of the era:
Alpine / Zermatt side: one side of the camera depicts the imposing Matterhorn towering over the historic Hotel Monte Rosa / Chalet Residence of Zermatt.
Lakeside / Lugano side: the other side celebrates the atmosphere and the dolce vita of the Swiss lakeside towns of the 1950s (with glimpses of the famed Monte San Salvatore, lakeside promenade, and era-appropriate architectures such as the Hotel Splendide Royal).
Technical execution and materials:
Desaturated colors: the illustration’s color tones were deliberately desaturated to render the warm, authentic patina of tourist postcards and magazines from the period, blending perfectly with the camera’s metal finishes.
New-generation technical coating:
the original leatherette has been replaced with an innovative technical material, resistant. This new coating ensures long durability, a pleasant tactile feel, and resistance to oily solutions, stains, and wear, giving the object not only aesthetic and collectible value but also practical manual use.
Technical Specifications:
Brand: Paillard Bolex
Model: C8
Format: 8mm film (Double 8 / Standard 8)
Original production year: 1950s
Country of manufacture: Switzerland (Sainte-Croix)
Condition: Art object / unique custom design (1/1). Spring-wound mechanism present and fairly responsive. The dry run operates but requires proper lubrication to function optimally. Speeds have not been tested.
Collector/Expert Notes:
Ideal for collectors of vintage cine cameras, lovers of retro design, enthusiasts of Swiss tourism history, or as an exclusive decorative element for a studio, boutique, or prestigious residence.
