A beautiful and characterful pair of vintage Japanese Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi dolls from the mid-20th century (Showa period, approx. the 1950s–1970s). These handcrafted wooden dolls stand 15 cm tall and are in a very nice collectible condition.

This specific duo is distinguished by the charming, pot-shaped bodies hand-painted with a serene, traditional Japanese mountain landscape. The dolls both wear the iconic removable cone-shaped straw hats (kasa) and are elegantly decorated with the original purple and beige braided decorative cords with tassels.

In Japanese culture, kokeshi dolls symbolize luck, friendship, and a long life, which at the time made them a beloved souvenir from the traditional onsen (hot springs) and today a sought-after item for lovers of Asian art and Mid-Century or Japandi interiors.

Condition: Good vintage condition, in line with age and use. The painting is bright and the tassels/hats are fully intact (see photos for an accurate personal impression).
