AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Barcelona chair, chrome-plated stainless steel frame and cognac-colored leather upholstery.

The Barcelona chair was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich (his partner and the only woman invited to teach at the Bauhaus) for the German pavilion of the 1929 Barcelona World's Fair, also designed by Mies van der Rohe. The Barcelona chair is an icon of industrial design, the Modern Movement, and design in general. With its elegant simplicity it embodies Mies van der Rohe's famous motto “less is more.”

Designed “for the repose of a king,” according to the author himself, and to welcome the Spanish royals visiting the 1929 Exposition, it is a reinterpretation and quotation of the “curule seat,” the Etruscan throne introduced in ancient Rome, foldable, saddle-shaped with four curved legs crossed in an X.

The inspiration and cultural reference to an ancient civilization, together with simplicity and formal purity confer the Barcelona chair with timeless charm, testified by its success and uninterrupted production from 1930 to today.

The chair is indeed from the 1970s production; the upholstery is new, so it bears only small signs on the frame as seen in the photos!

The Knoll International labels are still present on the frame and under the seat cushion!
