French alabaster mantel clock by Mercier à Beauvais from the 1850–1900 period, in a neoclassical style with a mechanical 8‑day movement and bell strike on the hours and half‑hours, complete with winding key and in good overall condition.
Description from the seller
Napoleon III French alabaster mantel clock – Mercier à Beauvais – 19th century
Magnificent French mantel clock, traditionally called Parigina, dating to the second half of the 19th century, approximately 1850–1870, during the period of the Second French Empire.
Made in fine white alabaster with veining, it features an elegant neoclassical architectural structure, enriched by refined gilded metal appliques and splendid lateral lion heads with movable rings.
Particularly striking is the upper crown, consisting of a classical-inspired scent-burner-like cup, with sinuous volute handles and a gilded central support.
The circular dial, with Roman numerals and gilded hands, bears the original signature “MERCIER à Beauvais,” traceable to the 19th‑century French watchmaking milieu.
The mechanical hand-wound movement has two winding holes and a bell strike for hours and half-hours. On the rear plate there are the initials L.D and the numbers 3816, interesting testimony to the era’s watchmaking production.
The mechanism is functioning, with the strike active, but it should be serviced to ensure correct and regular operation. Winding key present.
An authentic decorative piece of great elegance, perfect for enhancing fireplaces, consoles, studies, and classic living rooms, yet also equally captivating in contemporary settings, where the alabaster’s purity creates a refined contrast with gilded finishes.
Dimensions: 29 × 22 × 11 cm.
Good overall condition for its age, with natural signs of wear and time.
Photos are an integral part of the description.
Shipping with careful professional packaging, carried out according to the handling and protection procedures for artworks, thanks to our specialist Art Logistics certification.
