Dogon - Mali

Extraordinary Dogon mask with a strange animal atop it; the morphology suggests a monkey, the “Singe blanc” that Griaule identified by its whitish belly. An arboreal figure associated with the ancestors “present,” who observe without being observed: The “Omono tara wurum bogoro.” (The forest’s bad villains).
To note are the green natural pigment color, the sacred iron, the geometric painting made from blood and resins, and an indigenous repair on one leg, possibly more showy than a real fracture, but it gives it a special appeal.
