Burmese amber (Burmite) with an unusual Diptera fossil from the Cretaceous period ( Cenomanian, about 99 million years ago); natural specimen, polished and authentic, weighing 1.43 g and measuring 24 × 16 × 6 mm.
Description from the seller
Extraordinary Burmese amber with a well-visible fossil fly (Diptera) from the Cretaceous, about 99 million years old.
The inclusion is characterized in particular by its elongated body, the transparent wings with visible venation, and the long, slender legs. The head region with the compound eyes and a noticeably articulated antenna is also recognizable.
Particularly notable is the unusual caudal abdominal tip. The abdomen ends in a clearly curved, clamp-like structure, which may be related to the male genital apparatus. This striking anatomical feature gives the fossil a special scientific and collector's appeal.
The honey-yellow, transparent amber allows a good viewing of the inclusion. Besides the fossil insect, smaller organic particles and natural resin structures are present, documenting the original inclusion process.
Details:
Material: natural Burmese amber (Burmite)
Age: Cretaceous, Cenomanian, about 99 million years
Origin: Myanmar (Burma)
Fossil inclusion: Two-winged fly (Diptera)
Special feature: conspicuous curved posterior abdominal tip with clamp-like end structure
Weight: 1.43 g
Color: Transparent honey-yellow
Preservation: Well-visible fossil inclusion with discernible anatomical details
Note on identification:
The assignment to the order Diptera is based on visible morphological features. A secure determination at family, genus, or species level is not possible from the available images. The conspicuous end structure could be part of the male genital apparatus, but is not finally identified.
The amber contains natural internal structures, smaller particles and inclusions as characteristic for fossil resin. These are part of its natural composition.
You will receive exactly the amber shown in the pictures with the described fossil inclusion.
