AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Antique clock with enamel cartouche dial, gilded brass and bell strike – presumably 18th/19th century

Description

A remarkable antique, weight-driven clock with a richly decorated dial, an impressive mechanical movement, and a large strike bell.

The clock has a characteristic black iron frame, adorned with elegant brass ornaments and a beautifully pierced brass crown with floral motifs.

The striking dial consists of individual white enamel cartouches with deep blue Roman numerals. Around them are smaller cartouches with Arabic five-minute indicators. The richly ornamented, gilded brass bezel and the gracefully shaped hands give the whole a particularly decorative character.

The movement

The mechanical movement is built around an iron frame with visible brass gears, steel axles and two wooden rope drums for weight-driven operation.

Atop the movement is a large metal strike bell with its related striking mechanism.

The construction and design point to a traditional European clockmaker’s execution, likely from the 18th or 19th century. An exact dating and attribution to a specific maker have not been established.

Notable features

* Antique mechanical clock with weight-driven operation
* Enamel cartouche dial with blue Roman numerals
* Richly worked gilded brass dial surround
* Elegant pierced brass crown
* Original-looking iron movement frame
* Two wooden rope drums with red cords
* Large metal strike bell
* Hand-formed decorative hands
* Attractive historical appearance and visible patina of age

Condition

The clock is in an antique, used condition with visible signs of age and wear appropriate to its probable age.

The movement shows a nice historical patina. The brass components have retained their characteristic look.

The operation and completeness still need to be confirmed. Any weights, pendulum, and other accessories are included only if explicitly stated.

Delivered without weights and without a pendulum

An interesting collectible for enthusiasts of historical timepieces, antique clocks, and traditional clockmaking craftsmanship.
