Description from the seller
Openwork silver cross with a gilded Christ – STREICHER – Central Europe 19th century (circa 1850)
In Latin form, it features four polylobed ends adorned with a finely diamond-engraved pattern.
The front is centered by a gilded Christ in relief, applied, surmounted by the gilded titulus INRI.
Fine radiating lines surround the head of Christ.
The back is particularly refined, with an elegant engraving of stylized scrolls.
It bears the mark “STREICHER”, stamped in full letters in a rectangular cartouche.
Despite our research, this mark could not be definitively linked to a specific goldsmith; it could correspond to a maker of religious objects in the Germanic area.
The cross presents an interesting hollow and fully opening construction.
The removable back is held by a long through screw whose annular head forms the lower end of the cross.
This device provides access to the interior space, probably designed to receive a relic or an element of devotion.
The presence of a large suspension ring at the top indicates that it was meant to be worn or hung.
Beautiful condition; slight scratches, wear, and patina consistent with age.
The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. They allow one to assess its condition and features. Please examine them carefully before bidding.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding
