Description from the seller
An antique French desk set (late 19th century) comprising a large paper cutter (coute-papier) and its coordinated tray with integrated supports, entirely crafted in finely worked gilded bronze.
The design stands out for its strong eclectic character, with references to Neoclassical and Historicist styles. The tray features an elaborate raised beaded border and a pierced base with geometric motifs and scrolls. On the sides, two prominent openwork handles stand out. The paper cutter is characterized by a substantial cylindrical handle richly chased with floral and foliate relief motifs, ending in a decorative knob; there is a small chip at the end as shown in the photo. The blade features a pierced volute insert that gracefully connects to the handle.
A collectible piece of great visual impact, perfect for enriching a period desk or as a refined furnishing accessory.
The set retains a splendid original patina of its time with slight and normal signs of aging that attest to its authenticity.
